Reconstruction of Malahayati Port, Banda Aceh

Printer-friendly version

Initiated and funded by the Dutch government and the Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Relief Agency, the project comprised the construction of anew 140-metre berthing facility and approach trestle, the rehabilitation of damaged buildings and the reconstruction of completely demolished buildings and infrastructure.

In addition to the time pressure, the project had to be carried out in a remote area, further isolated due to tsunami damages. Most supplies and equipment had to be either imported from Singapore or transported from Medan (500 kilometres to the south). An accommodation camp had to be built from scratch to house the project team.

‘The project was completed and handed over to the client six weeks ahead of schedule.‘
